Kingdom of Colours
Part II

On view from April 15, 2025 to May 17, 2026
In the main hall of the Lalique Museum, the exhibition: Kingdom of Colours – Part II is on display. It is the sequel to 'Kingdom of Colours – Colours and glass, a golden combination'. The glasswork of René Lalique features a beautiful spectrum of colours. He was called the Da Vinci of jewelry and glass art for good reason. Thanks to his background as a jeweler, he could work magic with colours and light. His work is not only colourful, but also very extensive. For this reason, we are launching the new exhibition with forty new masterpieces. In the monumental Commanderij, the glasswork and the effect of colour are beautifully showcased.

René Lalique: the Da Vinci of jewelry and glass of the art nouveau and art deco

René Lalique (1860-1945) is also known as the Da Vinci of jewelry and glass art and is one of the most important designers of the Art Nouveau and Art Deco eras. He made a name for himself as a goldsmith in Paris, where he attracted attention with his highly detailed jewelry. In doing so, he used materials that were unusual at the time, such as glass. Lalique valued aesthetics over the intrinsic value of materials. Nevertheless, his jewelry was already expensive in his day and has since become among the most valuable in the world. Later in his career, Lalique shifted his focus entirely to glass art. He revolutionized the perfume industry with his designs for perfume bottles. Lalique’s oeuvre includes countless designs for, among other things, bowls, vases, lamps, table pieces, and even interiors. His work is highly detailed and filled with symbolism. The permanent collection of the Lalique Museum covers a very large part of René Lalique’s impressive oeuvre.
