On behalf of the BankGiro Lottery, ambassador Albert Verlinde surprised the museum yesterday with a one-time donation of 500,000 euros. With this amount, the architectural finishing and furnishing of the museum can be realized, making the world’s largest Lalique Museum a reality.
Santino Melssen and Benjamin Janssens of the Lalique Museum received the check today. “Incredible, half a million euros, we could never have imagined this! We are truly overwhelmed, there are no words. We dedicate ourselves day and night with great passion to this beautiful collection. This contribution really gives us a huge push in the right direction. Fantastic!”
Record amount for the cultural sector
Thanks to the participants of the BankGiro Lottery, a record multi-million amount will once again go to culture in the Netherlands this year. The donation to the Lalique Museum took place in the run-up to the annual Goed Geld Gala of the BankGiro Lottery, which will be held on February 5 at Naturalis in Leiden. During this event, the Lottery traditionally reveals the total amount it can donate in 2020 to many museums and other cultural organizations, and how this amount will be distributed. Thanks in part to the support of the BankGiro Lottery, culture and cultural heritage remain preserved and accessible to everyone.
